Inspirations Going To A Quilt Show!
Oh, the pleasure! Quilt shows are back and we can go!
We are heading for Festival of Quilts next month (August 17-20th 2022) and will be working, looking, photographing, being inspired, spending too much money, and having a really nice time...
First, the practical advice - take comfortable shoes, water, a good shoulder-bag with a clasp, folding shopping bags, energy bars, camera, batteries, your phone, a notebook, cash, credit cards, an open mind..
Buy a catalogue if it's available - for Festival it's essential - it comes in two parts, the first has maps, lists of the exhibits and traders, and all sorts of information. The second part has all the competition quilts with the makers' descriptions and is well worth carrying around
The halls in most shows are hot - if you can leave your coat in the car that's a good idea Or go by bus or on the train to save parking costs Buy your tickets up front - they will be cheaper...
Get involved!
Here's Heather and HH on the first Modern Group table - I really didn't want to run a Specialist Group, but somebody needed to. For most of my show-going I have stewarded (great fun and you get to really see and understand the quilts in your section properly, to say nothing of the early entry, free tea-and-cake, and the Power Of The White Gloves) - and free tickets, of course. Then there's the Tombola, Guild Stand, all sorts of useful stuff. Little local shows will need stewards too and you will get to enjoy the quilts much more...
2021 Traditional Quilt Winner "Flower News" by Sachiko Chiba And, everything will inspire you, even if some of the winners are almost unbelievably good...
