How Did I Become a Quiltmaker's Apprentice? | |||||||
How did I become the quilters apprentice? I've watched Helen (B) create her masterpieces for years, and helped with names for some of them. I have used sewing machines before, making covers for boat cushions and upholstery projects etc. ![]() Scouting and Such I'm not sure now how I started free motion quilting. I probably saw an example, or a long arm demo and Helen explained about it. I had a few attempts on my own and liked most of the results. ![]() I attended a couple of tutor sessions with Vendulka Battais at Sew & So's in Earsham, and persevered with practice pieces. ![]() Class Samples I was amazed by the quilts we saw at shows during 2025 and I have been experimenting with some ideas and designs of my own with varying degrees of success. Work has now progressed to include some 'proper' quilted pieces although plenty of practice still going on. It is interesting to note the improvement from early pieces to current as I get more confident. ![]() Early Fishes ![]() Later Fishes ![]() And Octopuses I enjoy the creativity of the FM style and will keep practising. We have now started the 2026 season of shows, and I am eager to see what further inspires me. Who knows where this may end up? ![]() More Sampling |
