The Quilter's Apprentice Visits Festival

I have been visiting quilt shows with Helen (B) for a couple of years now while I helped her with the business. It has been very interesting to see the changing display of quilts that Grosvenor travel throughout each year, as well as the competition quilts. Piecing is not really my thing although, being an engineer, I do like the geometry of such things. I have particularly enjoyed seeing the machine quilting and this is something I could aspire to.

FIBONACCI FANDANGLE by Linda Crouch

The rainbow colours of this quilt were what first caught my eye. Then, as I got closer I marvelled at the intricacy of the quilting design.

I even got to see the back, assisted by one of the lovely stewards with their white gloves!

ABUNDANCE by Linda Steele

The organic curves and natural forms as well as the colour of this quilt interested me. Every leaf and stem was quilted in a different design. Such painstaking work.

SPRING by Vendulka Battais

I was fascinated by the way the parts of this quilt interweave, and then I found it was by my quilt teacher, Vendulka! I love the change of quilting pattern on every piece - I realise I still have lots to learn.
